The Walnut Creek Community Library is one of the busier branches in the Library system. The Library has determined that there is an increased need for professional services at the branch to better meet the needs of its patronage. Additionally, it has determined that additional supervision of staff is needed due to the manager sometimes needing to be off-site to handle his managerial responsibilities. Consequently, it has determined that a Librarian III position will serve the community’s needs.  
  
This new Librarian III position would provide high-level professional services to library patronage while also providing some supervision over clerical staff and temporary aides, particularly in the absence of the branch’s manager. With this addition of services, a vacant Library Assistant-Journey Level position would no longer be necessary.

If this position change is not approved, Library services at the Walnut Creek branch will be negatively impacted since there will be a shortage of necessary professional staff and a shortage of supervision in the absence of managerial staff.
