RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with Textron Aviation Inc., in the amount not to exceed $400,000 for airplane maintenance services for the period December 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$400,000; Budgeted. These expenditures are covered by a combination of agency user fees, annual SLESF (Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund) allocation, and P-6 Zone revenue.

BACKGROUND:

Textron Aviation, Inc,. will provide airplane maintenance services for the Sheriff’s Office. The intent of the airplane program is to be an integral element of effective law enforcement operations. The airplane can be used for extraditions, rapid deployment of search and rescue teams across the region, retrieval of vital supplies for the county in cases of emergency, transportation of staff for investigations, interviews, trainings and meetings where commercial transports would prove more costly and less efficient.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the Board of Supervisors disapprove this new vendor contract, the continuation of the airplane program will require the County to contract for maintenance services with additional cost.
