RECOMMENDATION(S):

DECLARE the candidates listed on Attachment 1 as appointed in lieu of election and APPOINT the District nominees listed in Attachment 2 at the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election.

FISCAL IMPACT:

BACKGROUND:

Elections Code section 10515 requires that candidates who filed for an office for which the number of candidates is equal to or less than the number required to be elected, be "Appointed in Lieu of Election" by the Board of Supervisors as if they were elected. When there are insufficient number of candidates to fill the number of vacancies for the election, districts recommend candidates to be "Appointed" by the Board to fill those vacancies. The names of these candidates are on the attached report.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Should the Board not make the appointments, these candidates will not be sworn in as provided by law.
