RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-473-16 with SHC Services, Inc. (dba Supplemental Health Care), a corporation, effective October 1, 2012, to amend Contract #26-473-15, to increase the payment limit by $760,930, from $775,000 to a new payment limit of $1,535,930 with no change in the original term of April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

On May 15, 2012, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-473-15 with SHC Services, Inc. (dba Supplemental Health Care), for the period from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013, for the provision of temporary nursing and therapy services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers and the Main Detention Facility.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-473-16 will allow the Contractor to provide additional nursing and therapy services to cover for temporary absences and vacant positions at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers and the Main Detention Facility, through March 31, 2013.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would not have appropriate therapy coverage due to numerous vacant positions in the Rehabilitation Department and the Main Detention Facility, therefore patients would go untreated.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
