RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-584-4 with Diablo Nephrology Medical Group, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $360,000, to provide professional nephrology services for inmates at the County’s Detention Facilities and for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from November 1, 2012 through October 31, 2015.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise I Funds. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. No rate increase.









BACKGROUND:

On November 10, 2009, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-584-2 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-584-3), with Diablo Nephrology Medical Group, Inc., to provide professional Nephrology services, including, but not limited to, consultation, training and/or medical procedures for inmates at the County’s Detention Facilities and for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from November 1, 2009 through October 31, 2012.  
  
Approval of Contract #26-584-4 will allow the contractor continue providing services through October 31, 2015.   

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center or Detention Facility and Contra Costa Health Centers would experience much longer waits for services and may possibly go untreated.
