RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-585-5 with L. Evan Custer, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $667,500 to provide professional Radiology services for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from December 1, 2012 through November 30, 2015.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is 100% funded by Enterprise I funds. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

For a number of years the County has contracted with Medical and Dental Specialists to provide specialized professional services which are not otherwise available in its hospital and clinics.

On December 9, 2009 Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-585-3 (as amended by Amendment Agreement #26-585-4) with L. Evan Custer, M.D. to provide Radiology services, including consultation, training, clinic coverage, on-call, supervision and interpretation of CT Scans, Ultrasounds and plain films, for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from December 1, 2009 through November 30, 2012.

Approval of Contract #26-585-5 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide radiology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, through November 30, 2015

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this Contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center or Contra Costa Health Centers would experience much longer waits for services and may possibly go untreated.
