RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Director of Child Support Services, or designee to execute an Interagency Agreement with Superior Court of California, including modified indemnification, in an amount not to exceed $146,200, to provide on-site family law facilitator services, for the period of June 27, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This cost would be funded by 66% Federal, 34% State allocations. This expense is a zero cost to the County General Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The Superior Court of California has agreed to provide on-site family law facilitator services at the local child support office. These services include providing assistance to self represented parties to help them prepare the paperwork to establish or modify child and/or spousal support orders, providing assistance to self represented parties to help them prepare the responses to support or paternity papers that have been served on a customer, running computer generated child and spousal support calculations, providing assistance to self represented parties to help them prepare Orders After Hearing and Wage Assignments and providing assistance to self represented parties to help them file motions to establish paternity (identity of the legal father). The goal of providing said services is to improve customer service with our customers by having a resource available to better educate and guide them through the various child support processes.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action were not approved, the Department of Child Support Services would not have the ability to provide on-site family law facilitator services.
