RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE Appropriation and Revenue Adjustment No. 5029 authorizing new revenue in the amount of $282,385 from the Sheriff's Capital Acquisition Account (0111) and appropriating it for the purchase of equipment for Sheriff's Office Technical Services (0255) network upgrade.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This action increases revenue and appropriations by $282,385, with no change in net county cost. The new revenue is from the Sheriff's Capital Acquisition Account (0111).

BACKGROUND:

The Sheriff's Office is finding it necessary to upgrade networking equipment in order to take advantage of the higher bandwidth offered via Opteman lines for the cost of the current T1 lines. With more and more wireless devices available, the Sheriff's Office is finding it necessary to allow these devices to connect to the internet or the Sheriff's Office network. The upgraded equipment will allow this capability but will provide the security necessary to protect our network and data.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

The purchase will be funded by Kinder Morgan settlement funds, which was awarded to the Sheriff's Office in 2007. The funds were deposited into the Sheriff's Capital Acquisition Account.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The upgrade of the system will not be funded.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact.
