RECOMMENDATION(S):

Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21197 to add one Assistant Director of Hazardous Materials Programs position (VLFA) at salary level ZA5 1924 ($6982.21 - 8486.92) in the Health Services Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will result in an increased annual cost of approximately $128,178, including pension costs of $27,536, and will be fully funded by Hazardous Materials Fees.

BACKGROUND:

This position will be assigned to the Hazardous Materials program and is needed for the effecient and effective management of the hazardous materials program. Currently, there is one Assistant Director position that is responsible for twenty one (21) direct reports as well as the oversight of the Hazardous Materials Business Plan, Hazardous Waste Generator, Aboveground Petroleum Storage Act, and the Underground Storage Tank Programs and the Hazardous Materials Response Team. To perform an effective job of overseeing the programs and supervising the staff another Assistant Director position is needed.



CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this item is not approved, the unit will not have sufficient staff to effectively manage and oversee the Hazardous Materials program.
