RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Personnel Adjustment Resolution No.21202 to reclassify one (1) Equipment Service Writer (PMBV)(represented) position #10329 and its incumbent at salary level QS5 1253 ($3,592 - $3,961) to Sheriff’s Fleet Services Coordinator (PMSB)(represented) at salary level ZA5 1383 ($4,086 - $4,967) in the Support Services Bureau – Technical Services Division in the Office of the Sheriff.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$ 11,410. paid by the Office of the Sheriff’s General Fund

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the incumbent will not be classified and compensated appropriately.

BACKGROUND:

The Sheriff’s fleet consists of 397 vehicles spread throughout the county and requires considerable coordination between the assigned users and the General Services Division to keep it operational. Most of the fleet is highly specialized and contains unique law enforcement equipment. In January of 2010, the Sheriff’s Fleet Services Coordinator was unfunded amidst budget cut backs, after the incumbent retired.

In the absence of the Sheriff’s Fleet Services Coordinator, the incumbent in the Equipment Service Writer position had been ensuring that all the Sheriff’s vehicles, and the equipment within, are properly serviced and maintained. The Office of the Sheriff’s mission of providing public safety cannot be fulfilled if the fleet is not in good working order. Therefore, with the recommendation from Human Resources, we will reclassify the Equipment Service Writer position, and the incumbent, to that of Sheriff’s Fleet Services Coordinator.
