RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21183 to cancel one (1) full-time (40/40) Information Systems Specialist I (LTWA) (represented), vacant position no. 11981; and add one (1) full-time (40/40) Information Systems Administrator I (LFWA) (represented) in the Library Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost increase of approximately $15,075.04. No fiscal impact to the County general fund. This position is funded in the Library budget.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this position is not approved, the Library will continue to function at below acceptable levels for upgrading and maintaining Library servers.

BACKGROUND:

Since 1995, the Library IT department has grown from one third party managed server to over 50 servers, most of them managed in-house. Although the number of employees has increased over that time, typical tasks of current IT staff continue to focus on repairing, installing, and maintaining personal computers. The Library does not have any positions that are dedicated to server/system administration as their primary focus.

To function at an acceptable level for upgrading and maintaining Library servers, the Library requires the full-time expertise of a dedicated Systems Administrator to manage its servers, server software and back up systems.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
