RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-458-16 with AYA Healthcare, Inc., a corporation, effective October 1, 2011, to amend Contract #26-458-15, to increase the payment limit by $130,000, from $20,000 to a new payment limit of $150,000, with no change in the original term of September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This amendment is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

In September 2011, the County Administrator approved and the Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract #26-458-15 with AYA Healthcare, Inc., to provide temporary nursing services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, for the period from September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-458-16 will allow Contractor to provide additional hours of nursing services to cover during temporary absences and a shortage of nurses in critical areas at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this amendment is not approved, critical areas at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would not have appropriate nursing coverage during peak loads, temporary absences, and emergency situations.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
