RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and Authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to issue a purchase order with Hologic, Inc., in the amount of $122,647 (including tax) for the purchase of 2 Hologic Insight Surgical Mini C-Arm Fluoroscopic Systems.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Enterprise I Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Currently, the County owns no portable x-ray devices that can adequately image patient extremities during diagnostic or surgical cases. Contra Costa Regional Medical Center has 2 very large C-Arm Imaging units that work well for imaging the body but does not answer the needs of Orthopedic Surgeons when it comes to the imaging of arms, hands or feet. The purchase of a Hologic Insight Surgical Mini C-Arm Fluoroscopic System for the OR and the Hand/Ortho clinic in the specialty center will answer the need for the Orthopedic Surgeons regarding extremity diagnosis and surgery. One of the benefits of this Mini C-Arm is that it may be used anywhere. Unlike the larger C-Arms which require lead shielded rooms, the Mini C-Arm can be used in exam rooms and offsite clinics. The device will also allow images to be sent to our PACS Digital Image Storage System.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, Orthopedic Surgeons will be unable to adequately image patient extremities which can lead to surgical misdiagnosis.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
