RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21033 to add one (1) full-time Building Inspector II position (FAVD) (represented) at salary plan QS5 1721
($5,872-$6,474) in the Department of Conservation and Development.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact to general fund. The cost associated with this additional position is approximately $120,000/year. Of this amount, approximately $25,000 is attributed to retirement costs. One hundred percent of the costs of this position will be offset by contract revenues and by building inspection fees. (100% Land Development Fund)

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Conservation and Development implemented several rounds of workforce reductions in order to align revenues and expenditures. The addition of a Building Inspector II is necessary to respond to the work level. The department will use the lay-off list to fill this vacancy. The costs of this new position will be offset by contract revenues from the City of San Pablo and building inspection fees.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Failure to get Board approval to add a new Building Inspector II position will impede the department's ability to respond promptly to code enforcement complaints as well as to building inspection activities.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not impact.
