RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief, or designee, of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District to apply for and accept a FY 2011 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) grant in an amount not to exceed $102,000 for rescue systems training.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$102,000, 100% Federal; No District match required. The grant award may be lower than the amount requested and will be for a period of one year from the effective date of the award.
BACKGROUND:
The Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) provides a primary funding mechanism for building and sustaining national preparedness capabilities. HSGP is comprised of five interconnected grant programs, including the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI). The UASI Program provides funding to address the unique planning, organization, equipment, training, and exercise needs of high-threat, high-density urban areas and assists them in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism.
