RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21012 to increase the hours of one (1) Probation Counselor II (7KVB) (represented) position #874 from part time (20/40) to part time (24/40) in the Probation Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will result in an additional annual cost of $10,375 to be funded within the Probation Department Budget through avoidance of overtime expense.

BACKGROUND:

Probation Counselor II Position #874 is assigned to the Probation Department's Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility, a 24-hour facility. The OAYRF is in the process of adjusting shift schedules and establishing a graveyard only shift, in order to make more efficient use of existing staff. Currently staff can be assigned to a combined day and graveyard schedule. Increasing this position to 24 hours per week will allow this position to work a three-day, eight-hour schedule.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Probation Department will need to pay staff overtime to provide proper coverage on the graveyard shift.
