RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with A.S. Dutchover & Associates extending the contract term from March 31, 2011 to a new contract term of March 31, 2012 for landscape architectural services, with no change to the original payment limit of $250,000, Countywide. (All Districts) Project No.: Various

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no impact to the County General Fund. Services are paid by developer fees.

BACKGROUND:

Special Districts and Construction staff conducted a search for consultants to provide Countywide Landscape Architectural services. Staff contacted 46 firms and requested a Letter of Interest and Statement of Qualification (SOQ) by December 23, 2008 in order to be considered for a contract. These firms would do projects primarily for areas within the countywide LL-2 landscape district or County Service Areas.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Of the 46 firms contacted, 11 submitted Letters of Interest and SOQ’s. Construction staff selected two firms based on their unique qualifications. A.S. Dutchover & Associates was one of the firms selected. Construction staff requires a landscape architectural firm to ensure that the landscape areas it manages are designed, constructed and maintained in accordance with the Public Works Department’s Landscape Standards. The contract is being extended through March 31, 2012 in order to accommodate work in progress intended for this vendor.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without Board approval, Construction will not be able to provide these services with the required level of expertise needed to ensure that the landscape areas it manages are designed, constructed and maintained in accordance with the Public Works Department's Landscape Standards.
