Referral History:

The Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainability has requested a report at each meeting on the activities of the Sustainability Coordinator.

Referral Update:
This report provides an update to the Ad Hoc Sustainability Committee on the work of the County’s Sustainability Coordinator since the Committee last met in September 2017. Key activities during this period are listed below:
  • Evaluated responses to the Request for Proposals (5) and interviewed three consultant teams for the Renewable Resource Potential Study.Staff is in contract negotiations with Meister Consultants, which recently merged with the Cadmus Group, and hope to begin work on this project soon.
  • Supported the Sustainability Commission by: researching options for work plans and annual reports; researching options for creating more time for Commission members and alternates to collaborate; coordinating with the Commission Chair and Vice-Chair; developing and publishing the agenda for the Commission’s October meeting.
  • Participated in review of the Model Solar Ordinance Toolkit by staff in the Department of Conservation and Development, reported on elsewhere in this agenda.
  • Reviewed agenda materials for MCE Board and Committee meetings, and provided notes regarding same to the County’s representative and alternate to the MCE Board.Ongoing coordination with MCE staff on process regarding transition of Contra Costa jurisdictions to MCE.
  • Presented at the second annual Sustainable Enterprise Conference organized by Sustainable Contra Costa.
  • Continued working with County staff and staff of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority to develop a scope and strategy for developing an Electric Vehicle Shared Mobility Readiness Plan.
  • Convened quarterly meeting of the Sustainability Exchange, a venue for anyone in Contra Costa County who works for a city, county, special district, or other organization with a governing board of elected officials.
  • Coordinated with staff of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) on the Adapting to Rising Tides – Eastern Contra Costa study.Negotiated contract with BCDC staff and obtained contract approval from Board of Supervisors.
  • Participated in kickoff meeting for Bay Area regional Adapting to Rising Tides study.
  • Collaborated with County staff working on topics including land use and transportation, hazardous materials, green business program, integrated pest management, Planning Integration Team for Community Health (PITCH), codes, solid waste, energy.
  • Participated in regional activities.
  • Completed the County-sponsored, 40-hour course on the Art of Managing and Supervising People.
