CONSIDER receiving the report from the Health Services Department regarding current issues with drug misuse and abuse and the proposed Safe Drug Disposal Ordinance, and recommending to the Board of Supervisors approval of a Safe Drug Disposal Ordinance.

Accepted the report and recommendations and directed staff to forward to the Board of Supervisors for discussion and approval. If approved by the full Board, the Committee asked the department to connect with city managers and solid waste authorities to ensure continuity of safe drug disposal efforts throughout the County. Additionally, the Committee advised the department that the policy, if approved by the full Board as recommended, would likely need some revising to include other drug disposal needs. Speakers: Melody LaBella from Central Contra Costa Sanitary District, Andria Ventura from Clean Water Action, Tim Goncharoff from California Product Stewardship Council, Jaime Rich from Contra Costa MEDS Coalition, Patty Hoyt from Contra Costa MEDS Coalition, and Joe Greaves from ACCMA.
