RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Director of Animal Services Department, or designee, to apply for grant funding from the California for All Animals Program, in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 for a three-year term to increase animal shelter spay/neuter services.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this application will result in funds up to $1,000,000 over a three-year period. No County match,

BACKGROUND:

The funding priority for this grant cycle is to increase capacity for spay/neuter services for animal shelters, which is defined as spay/neuter of animals in the shelter, referred by field services and those at risk of ending up in the shelter. This includes pet owners experiencing homelessness, pet owners residing in zip codes of high intake, and priority community animals. Operational costs associated with increasing capacity will be included in the proposal.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved the County will not be able to apply for the grant to increase capacity for spay/neuter services.
