RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Defender, or designee to execute an agreement, with modified indemnification language, with San Francisco State University to engage in a Student Internship Placement program with the Office of the Public Defender for the period September 4, 2018 through September 3, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact.

BACKGROUND:

Students who are enrolled San Francisco State University in the field of Social Work and designated by the University, shall receive practical/clinical experience at the Public Defender's Office. Students shall work, perform assignments, and participate in client services under the supervision of the Department's Licensed Clinical Social Worker. There is no cost associated with this Agreement.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this Agreement is not approved, The University and Public Defender's Office will not be able to engage in a student internship placement program, and students will not be able to engage in clinical experience or supervision by the Department.
