RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the District Attorney, or designee, to execute an agreement, including modified indemnification language, with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in an amount not to exceed $3,000 to provide a training program for members of the District Attorney's office entitled: "Law, Justice, and the Holocaust: How the Courts Failed Germany".

FISCAL IMPACT:

Up to $3,000. The museum has agreed to provide the training free of costs. The District Attorney's office has agreed to pay travel costs for the presenters which are anticipated to be approximately $3,000.00

BACKGROUND:

Developed by the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., this program focuses on decisions that were made in the court system during the Nazi rise to power in Germany and the ethics of the judges and prosecutors that were involved. While critically examining the pressures that existed in Germany at that time, this program challenges prosecutors and judges to consider current issues and their potential impact on the administration of justice in our courts.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact.
