RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Auditor-Controller, or designee, to pay the amounts specified below for a total of $300,000 for Emergency Medical Service (EMS) fire first-responder medical equipment, medical supplies and EMS training to the following agencies, upon approval of EMS Director for FY 2012-13.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for these expenditures has been budgeted under CSA EM-1 (Measure H). There is no General Fund impact.
BACKGROUND:

These funds are allocated by formula to partially offset fire services’ added costs for medical supplies, equipment, and training incurred through participation in an enhanced Emergency Medical Services system established through CSA EM-1. These funds do not include the paramedic engine subsidies, which are covered in separate agreements.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Fire services would need to fund medical supplies, equipment and training out of their existing funds.
