RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to exercise the second option to extend the term of an existing contract containing modified indemnification language with GARDA CL WEST, Inc., increasing the payment limit by $8,400.00 from $33,600.00 to $42,000.00 for armored transport services for the period February 1, 2013 through January 31, 2014.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% County General Fund; Budgeted.

BACKGROUND:

On June 18, 2009, the Board approved an Agreement between the Office of the Sheriff and GARDA CL WEST, Inc., to provide armored transport services. The Office of the Sheriff’s Fiscal Unit requires the use of an armored transport service to pick up and deposit currency, coins, and checks for facilities within the Department. After conducting a Request for Proposals via the General Services Department on behalf of several County departments that needed such a service, GARDA CL WEST, Inc., was chosen as the service contractor.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

This contract includes modifications to the County's standard form indemnification language, but still results in the indemnification of the County by GARDA CL WEST, Inc. The contract was reviewed and approved as to form by County Counsel, including the revised indemnification language.

This Agreement contains two (2) one (1) year options to extend the term of the Agreement. Exercising this option will increase the payment limit by $8,400.00.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The current contract will expire without exercising a pre-negotiated option to extend the contract for an additional one-year term.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact.
