RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Risk Manager to execute a contract with Contra Costa County Schools Insurance Group (CCCSIG) in an amount not to exceed $198,500 to perform medical billing reviews for the period effective January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% funded by the Workers’ Compensation Internal Service Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The Contra Costa County Schools Insurance Group (CCCSIG) and the Contra Costa County Risk Management Division created a joint partnership public entities in 2003. CCCSIG has provided workers’ compensation medical bill review services for Risk Management at reduced annual review costs from the County’s previous private provider. Effective October 15, 2012, the State of California mandated a new medical bill review program required on workers' compensation claims which requires an electronic interface between the medical provider and the claims entity. CCCSIG has worked with the software provider on this effort. This contract will allow the County to continue its medical bill review services.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

County cannot maintain compliance of California Department of Industrial Relations without necessary bill review services.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

None.
