RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-355-8 with East Bay Newborn Specialists, Inc. a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $242,904, for the provision of neonatology services for obstetrics and newborn patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Enterprise Fund I. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services.

BACKGROUND:

The number of deliveries at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center continues to increase, as does the percentage of high risk mothers. This service provides additional support to staff involved in the care of newborns and is consistent with the Department's efforts to reduce risk to the County.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

On January 12, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-355-7 with East Bay Neonatology, for the period from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011, for the provision of neonatology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.

Approval of Contract #26-355-8 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide services, through December 31, 2012.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would have longer wait times and possibly go untreated.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
