RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Probation Officer, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with Behavioral Interventions, Inc., to extend the term from December 31, 2011 to January 31, 2012 and increase the payment limit by $30,000 to a new payment limit of $495,000 to provide additional electronic monitoring equipment and services.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for electronic monitoring services is included in the Probation Department's annual budget and partially offset by participant fees.

BACKGROUND:

The Probation Department contracts with Behavioral Interventions, Inc., to provide electronic monitoring services and equipment to probationers. This amendment extends the contract term by one month and increases the payment by $30,000 for a total of $495,000. The Probation Department has gone out to bid for electronic monitoring services and a new contract is being negotiated.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The current contract with Behavioral Interventions, Inc., will expire on December 31, 2011 and without the contract amendment, the Probation Department will not be able to provide electronic monitoring services to probationers.
