RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-429-18 with Jackson & Coker Locum Tenens, LLC, a limited liability company, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, for the provision of temporary help physicians for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, Contra Costa Health Centers and the County’s Main Detention Facility, for the period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by the Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

For many years the County has contracted with registries to provide temporary qualified personnel to assist the Department during peak workloads, temporary absences and emergency situations.   
  




BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
On January 18, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-429-17 with Jackson & Coker Locum Tenens, LLC, for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011, for the provision of temporary physician services to cover vacation, sick leave, and extended leave relief for County-employed physicians at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers and County’s Main Detention Facility.  
  
Approval of Contract #26-429-18 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide temporary physician services through December 31, 2012, including a modification to County’s General Conditional Paragraph 18. (Indemnification) related to locum tenens physicians not being indemnified by Contractor.  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, Contra Costa Regional Medical, Contra Costa Health Centers and the County's Main Detention Facility will have reduced access to appropriate physician coverage during temporary staff absences creating the potential for patients to experience delays in treatment.
