RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Risk Manager to execute a contract with Contra Costa County Schools Insurance Group (CCCSIG) in an amount not to exceed $198,500 to perform medical billing reviews for the period effective January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% funded by the Workers’ Compensation Internal Service Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The Contra Costa County Schools Insurance Group (CCCSIG) and the Contra Costa County Risk Management Division created a joint partnership public entity in 2003. CCCSIG has provided workers’ compensation medical bill review services for Risk Management at reduced annual review costs from the County’s previous private provider. This contract will allow the County to continue to receive the same services. Effective October 15, 2012, the State of California has mandated a new medical bill review program required on workers' compensation claims which will require an electronic interface between the medical provider and the claims entity. CCCSIG is working with the software provider on this effort.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without necessary bill review services County cannot maintain compliance of California Department of Industrial Relations.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
