RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the Health Services Department, Purchase Order with Bacon East Pharmacy, Inc., in the amount of $135,000, to provide pharmacy prescriptions for mentally ill clients in Contra Costa Mental Health Programs who are uninsured or do not have Medi-Cal, for the period from February 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Mental Health Realignment Funds. No County General Funds.

BACKGROUND:

Approval of this Purchase Order will allow County to provide pharmacy prescritions for uninsured mentally ill clients in Contra Costa Mental Health Programs while benefits are being established.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, consumers unable to get needed medications could end up in the Emergency Room, and ultimately as an inpatient.
