RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to apply for and accept grant funding not to exceed $280,000 from Humboldt State University to provide Small Business Development Center Services for the period January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.  
  

FISCAL IMPACT:

$280,000: 100% Funding by Humboldt State University. Required match of 50% Small Business Development Center share of cost from donations and 50% County in-kind.  
  



BACKGROUND:

The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County is receiving grant funds from Humboldt State University Sponsored Programs Foundation to provide continued Small Business Development Center (SBDC) services to business owners in Contra Costa County. The SBDC provides a vast array of business services including general business consulting, training, information and referral, marketing, and financial consulting. The Small Business Development Center maintains cooperative agreements with other service providers (e.g., colleges, universities, economic development corporations, and local government) and increase the small business sector's contributions to economic development in Contra Costa County.  
  
  
  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Employment and Human Services will be unable to continue providing services.
