RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Unpaid Student Training Agreement 26-141-8 with Board of Trustees of Peralta Community College District, an educational institution, to provide supervised field instruction at the Health Services Department for Contractor’s radiology students, for the period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2017.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide Contractor’s students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefitting from the students’ services to patients.  




BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
On February 9, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-141-7 with Board of Trustees of Peralta Community College District, for the period from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011.  
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-141-8 will allow supervised field instruction experience for Contractor’s students at Health Services Department, through December 31, 2017.  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, the students will not receive supervised field instruction experience at Contra Costa Regional Medical Clinics or Health Services Department.
