RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-679 with Gerald N. Schaffer, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $210,000, for the provision of professional gastroenterology services for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded by Enterprise I Budget. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services.

BACKGROUND:

Under Contract #26-679, Gerald N. Schaffer, M.D. will provide gastroenterology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers including, but not limited to, clinic coverage, gastrointestinal laboratory sessions, consultation, training, on-call coverage and medical and/or surgical procedures, for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2013.



CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would go untreated.
