RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-895-26 with Jason Appel, M.D., Professional Corporation, in an amount not to exceed $128,544, to provide orthopedic services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2012.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

In December 2009, the County Administrator approved and the Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract #26-895-25 with Jason Appel, M.D., Professional Corporation, for the period from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010, for the provision of orthopedic services including consultation, clinic coverage, training and medical procedures.

Approval of Contract #26-895-26 will allow the Contractor to continue providing orthopedic services through December 31, 2012.   

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would go untreated.
