RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Department director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with the California Department of Education to amend the minimum days of operation to 244 days for state preschool programs with no change to the payment limit of $8,474,592 or term July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.

BACKGROUND:

Contra Costa County receives funding from California Department of Education to provide state preschool program services for program-eligible County residents. The board approved receipt of funds for the 2010-11 program year on July 13, 2010. The state routinely amends the agreement within the program year to address changes to funding terms and conditions and to adjust days of operation, as needed.

The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
