RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase Order with Applied Remedial Services (ARS), in an amount not to exceed $260,000, for removal and disposal of hazardous waste materials at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding is included in the Enterprise I Fund operational budget.

BACKGROUND:

ARS provides removal and disposal of hazardous waste at the hospital and all the clinics to comply with State and Federal Regulations. This service is required on a quarterly basis. Our facilities are monitored on a quarterly basis to ensure that hazardous waste is being disposed of properly.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
ARS provides the following services:

They have their own lab in which the chemists inspect and prepare profile reports and documents for disposal facilities, waste research with disposal facility.

They inventory hazardous waste, sort and package chemical waste, clean up spilled material.

They deliver supplies, package chemical waste from the morgue, pharmacy, public health, pathology and hazardous waste shed.

They pick up chemical waste and hazardous waste.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Service is Mandatory to comply with State and Federal Regulations. If not approved, services will have to be gotten elsewhere. This would probably require piecing the different services that are done by this one company to multiple companies. This company is tried and true, efficient and reliable. They have been used for a number of years and have served us well.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
