RECOMMENDATION(S):

1. APPROVE Amendment No. 2 to the Consulting Services Agreement dated March 17, 2009 with Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz ("KMD") to increase the payment limit by $19,960 from $219,000 to $238,960.

2. AUTHORIZE the General Services Director, or designee, to execute the amendment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for the architectural/engineering services are budgeted in the Health Services Department Hospital Enterprise Fund (6971-4542).

BACKGROUND:

The project involves the conversion of an antepartum room to a labor delivery room in the hospital's perinatal unit. Also included is the conversion of an unused nurse's station into a labor delivery triage room. During development of the project, the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (O.S.H.P.D.) informed the County that the one remaining nurse station area be upgraded by being brought up to current codes and being outfitted with the necessary medical systems.

KMD is providing architectural and engineering services for the project, which originally did not include the upgrade of the nurse station. The proposed amendment is necessary to provide the additional architectural and engineering services.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If the amendment is not approved, the O.S.H.P.D. requirements will not be met and the project will not be able to proceed further, or the conversion of the unused nurse's station will need to be removed from the project scope.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not Applicable.
