FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to offset Ms. Speiker's relocation expenses are within the County Administrator's Office budget. The cost associated with the increased vacation accrual rate is within the County Administrator's budget.
BACKGROUND:
The County conducted an external recruitment from August - September 2009. As a result of this recruitment, Ms. Speiker accepted the position and officially will begin employment on February 8, 2010. In order to accept the position, it is necessary for Ms. Speiker to relocate to the Bay Area from Minnesota. A one-time reimbursement payment in the amount not to exceed $5,000 is necessary to help defray the moving expenses.
In addition, in recognition of Ms. Speiker's many years of public service, her vacation accrual will be at the rate of twenty (20) hours per month (240 hours annually) for the duration of her service with Contra Costa County.
