RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE Appropriation Adjustment No. 5044 authorizing new revenue in the Sheriff's Office (0255) in the amount of $96,000 from the California Department of Boating and Waterways for the abatement of abandoned vessels.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This action increases revenue and appropriations by $96,000.

BACKGROUND:

On October 28, 2008 (Item C.56), the Board of Supervisors approved and authorized the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to apply for and accept this grant from the State of California. On March 17, 2009 (Item C.47) the Board authorized an amendment to this grant extending the grant term and increasing the grant award amount. On May 19, 2009 (Item C.22), the Board authorized a second amendment to this grant, increasing the grant amount to a new award of $96,000. On June 23, 2009 (Item C.53), the Board authorized a third amendment to narrow the scope of the project to abandoned vessel removal only. It is the intention of the Marine Patrol Unit to abate abandoned vessels with these grant funds as they pose a significant navigational hazard.
