RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $16,505 from East Bay Community Foundation, administered by the Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council, for Rodeo Library services, pursuant to the local refinery Good Neighbor Agreement, for the period July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact.

BACKGROUND:

The County currently funds 18 hours of library service at the Rodeo Library. If granted, the $16,505 received from Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council will be used by the Contra Costa County Library to fund six additional hours of library service, which allows the Library to open two evenings, and two additional hours on Saturdays thereby providing Rodeo residents more opportunities to make use of the educational and recreational resources available in the Library.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

This grant supports the community outcome of Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families. Many Rodeo residents are only able to use the Rodeo Library due to transportation difficulties and/or age (particularly children and teens who cannot yet drive). The Rodeo Library remains an important part of the community’s civic life, offering such activities as book discussion groups, movie discussion groups, and arts and craft programs for parents with small children.
