RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, M.D.), to execute on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-974-4 with B. Richard Newman, M.D. (Specialty: Allergy), a self-employed individual, effective March 1, 2009, to amend Contract #26-974-3 to increase the payment limit by $48,000, from $64,800 to a new payment limit of $112,800 with no change in the original term of July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2010.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for this Contract is 100% Enterprise I Funds included in the Health Services Departments Budget. As appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services.

BACKGROUND:

On July 24, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-974-3 with B. Richard Newman, M.D. to provide professional allergy services including clinical coverage, consultation and training at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2010.

Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-974-4 will allow the Contractor to provide one (1) additional clinic per week due to increased patient load and loss of one (1) allergy specialist, at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, through June 30, 2010.
