RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D.), to execute on behalf of the County Grant Agreement #28-801 with the Contra Costa Child Care Council, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $18,000, for the County’s Public Health, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program, “Rethink Your Drink Social Marketing Campaign Project”, for the period from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this award will result in an amount not to exceed $18,000 from Kaiser passed through Contra Costa Child Care Council for County’s Public Health, WIC Program, “Rethink Your Drink Social Marketing Campaign Project”. No County match required.










BACKGROUND:

The Child Care Council in conjunction with the County’s Public Health Women’s, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center Pediatrics, and many other health organizations will work collaboratively to promote healthy drink alternatives through surveying local dentist and physicians regarding sweet drink practices, design and test informational and marketing materials to educate parents, childcare providers and health care providers, and create marketing tools to address comparison between water, milk, and sweet drinks to children. Approval of this Grant Agreement #28-801 will provide funds for the “Rethink Your Drink Social Marketing Campaign Project” through June 30, 2009.
