RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, a plan prepared for Contra Costa County by the Diablo Fire Safe Council for the purpose of reducing the risk of loss of life and property due to wildfire.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No immediate fiscal impact. However, the Plan give the County, through the Wildland Urban Interface area, an advantage when seeking federal funds for fuel management programs.

BACKGROUND:

In its 2008 year-end report to the Board of Supervisiors, the Public Protection Committee asked the Board to refer to it a request from the Diablo Fire Safe Council for County adoption of a Community Wildfire Protectin Plan. Our committee met with a Diablo Fire Safe Council representive in February and April to discuss the plan, and the Contra Costa Fire Chiefs Association has endorsed the Plan last month.

Our committee, therefore, recommends County adoption of the attached Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
