RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract with the State of California, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $30,000 to provide security services for the Contra Costa County Fair for the period May 28, 2009 through June 1, 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No net County costs. Revenue $30,000. 100% State.

BACKGROUND:

Each year the State of California provides funding to the Office of the Sheriff-Coroner to pay Sheriff Reserve Deputies to provide security at the County Fair. This agreement will enable the Office of the Sheriff-Coroner to augment regular deputies with Reserve Deputies to provide needed security at the five-day event. This interagency agreement is authorized pursuant to Government Code section 6500.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Failure to authorize this action will leave the 2009 Contra Costa County Fair without adequate security services and increase demand on regular patrol deputies. If this agreement is not authorized, the regular salary and overtime costs incurred providing security at the fair in lieu of using Reserve Deputies will not be reimbursed by the State and will be charged against the County General Fund.
