RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, M.D.), to execute on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-602-2 with Traditions Psychology Group, Inc. (dba Traditions Behavioral Health), a corporation, effective October 1, 2008, to amend Contract #26-602 (as amended by Amendment Agreement #26-602-1) to increase the payment limit by $1,900,000, from $11,100,000 to a new payment limit of $13,000,000, with no change in the original term of June 15, 2007 through June 14, 2010.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for this Contract is 100% Enterprise Fund I included in the Health Services Departments Budget. As appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services. This Amendment will be offset from cost savings due to cancellation of contracts with individual psychiatrists and locum tenens staffing companies.

BACKGROUND:

On July 10, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-602 (as amended by Amendment Agreement #26-602-1) to provide staffing and leadership of the Inpatient Psychiatric and Psychiatric Emergency Units at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers including, but not limited to, providing a required number of psychiatrists necessary for clinical coverage of patients twenty-four (24) hours a day, (7) seven days a week, a Chief of the Department of Psychiatry to direct administrative and clinical supervision and supervision of all non-clinical areas related to the medical staff of the Department of Psychiatry, through June 14, 2010.

Due to an increase in psychiatric services under this Contract at the Richmond 38th Street Clinic, the County’s Adult Detention Facilities and the departure of one (1) Psychiatric Medical Director utilization has been higher than originally anticipated. Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-602-2 will allow Contractor to provide additional psychiatric services, through June 14, 2010.
