RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee Jeff Smith, M.D., to execute on behalf of the County as follows:

1. Cancellation Agreement #26 516-3 with Brian Blaisch, M.D., Pediatrics, Inc., (Specialty: Pediatrics), a professional corporation, effective on the close of business on May 31, 2009; and

RECOMMENDATION(S): (CONT'D)
2. Contract #26-516-4 with Brian Blaisch, M.D., Pediatrics, Inc., (Specialty: Pediatrics), a professional corporation, in an amount not to exceed $38,000, for the provision of professional pediatric services for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from June 1, 2009 through May 31, 2010.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded by Enterprise I Budget. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services.

BACKGROUND:

On May 6, 2008, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-516-2 with Brian Blaisch, M.D. Pediatrics, Inc., to provide pediatric services including consultation, training, on-call, medical and/or surgical procedures, and clinic coverage, for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from April 1, 2008 through March 31, 2011.

In consideration of Contractor’s agreement to continue providing services, both parties have agreed to re-negotiate payment terms. This will allow the Contractor continue to be paid at the current rate and remove any previously negotiated increases for fiscal years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. The Department and the Contractor have mutually agreed to renegotiate the Contract Payment Provisions and the term to reflect the intent of the parties. Therefore, in accordance with Special Conditions, Paragraph 2. (Modification to Termination and Cancellation) of the Contract, the Department and Contractor have agreed to a mutual cancellation of Contract #26-516-2. Approval of Cancellation Agreement #26-516-3 will accomplish this termination.

Under Contract #26-516-4, Contractor will provide professional pediatric services, including, consultation, clinic coverage, training, on-call services, and medical and/or surgical procedures, through May 31, 2010.
