RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE the Director of Airports, or designee, to authorize the Ninety-Nine’s International Organization of Women Pilots (99’s) to sponsor an Aviation Open House celebrating the organization’s 80th anniversary at Buchanan Field Airport on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2009. Pacheco Area

FISCAL IMPACT:

No impact to the County General Fund. The Airport Enterprise Funds and staff coverage will be used in support of the event. The total estimated county share is $5,000. The 99’s are leveraging private funding for insurance, fencing, portable bathrooms, and other related function costs.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Airport Open House will be cancelled, removing a valuable community outreach opportunity.

BACKGROUND:

The 99’s, in collaboration with the County Airport staff, and Buchanan Field Airport tenants and organizations, wish to sponsor an Aviation Open House on the Buchanan Field Airport on Father’s Day, June 21, 2009 for this event. The event is envisioned to celebrate the 99’s 80th anniversary and promote aviation with the surrounding community. It will also be an opportunity for Buchanan Field businesses and organizations to showcase the community resources available at Buchanan Field Airport. The Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 99’s Aviation Open House will feature informational booths, static aircraft displays, a kid’s area and food and other vendor booths.
