RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Animal Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with Dr. Marcia Patchett, DVM, increasing the payment limit by $150,000 to a new payment limit of $245,000, and extending the term through June 30, 2024, for continued shelter veterinarian services.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Projected FY 2023-24 contract costs are $150,000. (100% General Fund)

BACKGROUND:

The Animal Services Department's Shelter Medicine Support is responsible for providing all of the Department's general veterinarian medical care, after-hours urgent care, and emergency care, as well as spay and neuter services for both public and shelter animals. The proposed amendment with Dr. Patchett will add $150,000 to the payment limit to provide additional medical services through June 30, 2024, necessitated by higher live release rates for healthy and adoptable animals. The contract with Dr. Patchett contains modified insurance language.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Failure to approve this amendment will result in the loss of critical public spay and neuter services and impact healthy and adoptable shelter animals.
